WOMEN'S PHILANTHROPY

Inspired and guided by our tradition of tzedakah (righteousness/charity) and tikkun olam (repairing the world), the Women’s Philanthropy Division of The Jewish Federation of Greater Long Beach and West Orange County is dedicated to the continuity, connectivity and thriving future of our community, Israel and the Jewish people. We believe that the future well-being of the Jewish community is inextricably linked to the power of women's philanthropy.

The Women’s Division at the Jewish Federation of Greater Long Beach and West Orange County is a warm and welcoming environment for women in the community to get involved. The division works closely with other women’s groups in the community to make the voice of women heard.

Kol Isha is a consortium of Jewish women’s organizations that work together to provide meaningful women’s programming in the Greater Long Beach area. The organizations come together to leverage their resources so that women in Greater Long Beach can benefit from the programming to the fullest. The organizations sponsor a Women’s Passover Seder, social action projects, and other ways for women to
get involved in the community.

Lion of Judah

The Lion of Judah recognizes women who make an individual gift above $5,000 to the Jewish Federation annual campaign. Since 1972, when the Lion of Judah was established by Norma Kipnis-Wilson and Toby Friedland, z"l, of Miami, it has been a symbol of a woman's power to make change through her giving. More than 16,000 women around the world have embraced the Lion and the concept of the individual gift. Thanks to them, our Jewish federation system can meet the urgent needs of people everywhere. Lions play an essential role in creating social justice, healing the sick, feeding the hungry, preserving human dignity and building Jewish identity.

Pomegranate

One of the seven fruits named in the Bible, the Pomegranate is a symbol of Jewish life and commitment. Each pomegranate is said to contain 613 seeds – one for each of the mitzvot in the Torah.Women who make a minimum gift of $1,500 in their own name each year to the Jewish Federation Annual Campaign are recognized throughout the United States for their leadership roles by wearing a unique silver Pomegranate Pin. Pomegranates participate both locally and nationally in women’s philanthropy events and are among the women leaders in our community.
