I am very happy to announce that on Tuesday, September 2, retired FBI specialist Miguel Luna will join our teams at Jewish Long Beach and The Jewish Federation of Orange County (JFedOC). Miguel will be the Community Security Director representing the Secure Community Network jointly on our campuses.
Mr. Luna will act as an expert security advisor, liaison, and trainer for Jewish Long Beach and JFedOC, and for synagogues and other Jewish institutions in our communities. He will bring more than 20 years of law enforcement experience to his role, providing guidance and support to ensure the safety and security of our facilities and people. He has worked throughout Southern California, in Washington D.C., and in a multitude of offices within the FBI.

Mr. Luna's shared assignment to both the JFedOC and Jewish Long Beach represents a collaborative venture between our two communities that we are confident will ensure greater protection and resiliency. Mr. Luna will split his time between our communities, ensuring a seamless security infrastructure for us.
Secure Community Network (SCN), founded in 2004, is the official safety and security organization of the Jewish community across North America. SCN works in partnership with over 50 national Jewish nonprofit organizations, 146 Federations, and over 300 independent organizations nationwide to provide intelligence sharing, training, threat monitoring, and emergency preparedness, ensuring that Jewish communities can gather, learn, and worship safely. Through its regional model, SCN places experienced security advisors in local communities to strengthen security infrastructure, coordinate with law enforcement, and build resilience.
During his interview for the role of Community Security Director, Mr. Luna discussed his understanding and admiration for the Jewish community. He was eager to use his skills and experience to help us meet the threats facing us, especially as they have increased. He told us he would treasure the opportunity to work with us. "Jews have been persecuted throughout history. Yet you remain open" to engaging with the world.
Please join me in welcoming Miguel when you see him on our campus. We will soon arrange a formal opportunity for you to meet him, and for him to outline the work he will be doing to keep us safe.
Shabbat Shalom,
Mark Rothman
