Statement on Earthquakes in Venezuela

Jewish Long Beach expresses our sorrow and concern following the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela this week. We mourn the lives lost, pray for the recovery of those who have been injured, and stand in solidarity with all those impacted by this tragedy.

Through our partnership with the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA), the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), and The Jewish Agency for Israel, the global Jewish community has mobilized immediately to assess needs and provide assistance. JDC has activated emergency support mechanisms and begun distributing pre-positioned humanitarian supplies, while The Jewish Agency has established resources for Venezuelan immigrants in Israel and those seeking information and assistance.

This response reflects one of the greatest strengths of the Jewish communal system: our ability to act quickly and collectively when Jewish communities anywhere in the world face crisis. The support provided through Federation networks helps ensure that emergency response infrastructure is already in place before disaster strikes.

As the situation develops, Jewish Long Beach will continue to monitor updates from our partners on the ground and share information as appropriate. We remain committed to the enduring Jewish value of  B’tzelem Elohim – that all people are created in the Divine image, and that we must help all those who are in need.
