Celebrate creativity, family, and the spirit of Chanukah with the first-ever Jewish Long Beach Found Objects Menorah-Making Contest! Bring light to your home and community in a unique way—by creating a menorah from found or recycled objects. This family-friendly contest combines Jewish tradition, creativity, and sustainability.

 

This year’s contest focuses on the theme of increasing light in the world. Use only found or recycled materials—things you already have at home, in nature (collected responsibly), or items destined for reuse. Showcase creativity, sustainability, and Jewish tradition.

 

✅Rules

  • Must have 9 candleholders (8 nights + 1 shamash).
  • Must be functional (able to hold candles or LED lights safely).
  • Must be made primarily from found, reused, or recycled materials.
  • Should be made by a family or team—teamwork is part of the fun!

 

📝How to Enter

  • Create your menorah at home
  • Fill out entry form 
  • Drop it off at the AJCC between December 9 -15
  • Label with group name

Prizes

🎉 Winners announced before candlelighting on December 18 at 5 PM

🎁 All participants in attendance will receive a special gift.

🍴Participants are welcome to attend the Family Latke Bar Dinner after the awards, no ticket needed.

  • 🥈 2nd Place: $100 Target Gift Card
  • 🥉 3rd Place: $50 Target Gift Card
     

Rental Prize Detail

Playground Rental:  Value is $375, plus a refundable $75 security and damage deposit, for a four-hour reservation during regular business hours. This timeframe includes setup and teardown. The rental package includes:

  • Two 6-foot rectangular tables for food and refreshments
  • Five 6-foot rectangular tables with eight chairs each
  • Two EZ-Ups
  • Maximum capacity: 80 guests
  • Outside catering, food vendors, and food trucks are permitted. Please note that alcohol, pork, and shellfish are strictly prohibited.

Pool Rental: Value is $150/hr on weekdays, plus a refundable cleaning/damage deposit of 20%. All rentals are for a minimum of 2 hours. Rental package includes:

  • 1 BBQ grill
  • 2 – 6ft tables, 2 tables with umbrellas and 16 chairs
  • Wading pool access, and 2 open swim lanes
  • Maximum capacity 40 people.
  • Please note, the open swim area & wading pool is also open to members during the rental. Only one pool rental may be scheduled at a time during regular business hours. All pool rentals are staffed by certified lifeguards.
